Birkhead’s Objections

Larry Birkhead, the ex-partner of Anna Nicole Smith, has publicly condemned the upcoming film ‘Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.’ The biopic tells the story of Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, who was involved in Smith’s life and implicated in her death in 2007.

In an interview with ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ Birkhead stated, “We absolutely object to any of Anna Nicole’s, my life, my daughter’s life being used in a movie.” He expressed concern about the portrayal of Kapoor, who was supposed to be a trusted physician.

Background on the Film

‘Trust Me, I’m a Doctor’ is based on Kapoor’s 2017 book, where he recounts his experiences as Smith’s primary physician prior to her overdose at age 39. Kapoor faced charges for illegally prescribing drugs to Smith but was acquitted in a 2010 trial. Kal Penn is set to portray Kapoor in the film.

Birkhead’s Legal Actions

Birkhead, who shares a daughter with Smith, Dannielynn, has attempted to prevent the film’s production. He mentioned having discussions with Kapoor and his representatives, warning them about the emotional distress the film could cause for him and his daughter. “I warned them about the harm and the emotional distress that this puts on not just myself but also, most importantly, Dannielynn,” he said.

He also noted that Smith’s story has been depicted multiple times in the past, including a ‘Law & Order’ episode and a Lifetime movie in 2013.

Concerns About Casting

Regarding the casting of Abbie Cornish as Smith, Birkhead remarked, “I’m sure she’s probably a nice girl and a great actress. But I don’t think she quite embodied Anna Nicole.” He emphasized that this was not a personal attack on Cornish.

Birkhead has even filed a complaint with the California Medical Board concerning Kapoor’s involvement in the film. “I’m just going to let the process, you know, play itself out, and see what they have to say about that,” he added.

Dannielynn’s Reaction

As for his daughter, Birkhead revealed that Dannielynn has voiced her own strong feelings about the biopic. “I don’t wanna speak for her on this, but she had some choice words for this doctor and this project,” he said.

Despite being over 18, Birkhead maintains that his role as a father is to protect her from potential harm. The film is scheduled for release in theaters on October 16.
